The Engineer Who Learned What Business Owners Actually Need
Gerardo Chairez arrived in the United States from Mexico at 18 years old without speaking a word of English. His first job was washing dishes in a seafood restaurant while studying English at night.
Within four months he had learned enough to become a cook. Eighteen months after arriving, he entered the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley as an electronics technician.
He went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley, followed by a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Computer Architecture from Georgia Tech. Over the next 15 years, he designed complex systems at Motorola and then at Intel, where he worked on advanced microprocessor architecture.
Eventually, he stepped away from engineering and moved into real estate investment, building a highly successful portfolio.
Then, in 2008, the economic crash dissolved everything he had built. It was a total loss.
But it was also a revelation. He realized that even a successful business is fragile when its underlying architecture cannot function without the creator's constant intervention.
He did not go back to engineering or real estate. He went deeper: studying systems, human behavior, and the strategic application of AI in business.
The conviction that came out of that journey is the foundation of VAISA. The same discipline that makes complex engineering systems work without failure can be applied to how a business runs.
